Ten individuals convicted of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading false claims regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A circulating unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's identity.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these claims on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
